Exhibition Introduction:
China Northeast Asia Expo (hereinafter referred to as the Expo) is a national-level exhibition approved by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China, National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and People’s Government of Jilin Province, cosponsored by 8 important business associations of the other five countries in Northeast Asia as well as Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat. Open globally and participated by six Northeast Asian countries, it is also the only comprehensive international expo at the national level.

I. Background and Evolution
In 2005, Premier Wen Jiabao put forward the initiative of “expanding cooperation in Northeast Asia and accelerating the revitalization of the old industrial bases in Northeast China” at the ASEAN Plus Three Summit, which was well recognized by the participants. In 2004, China carried out the strategy of rejuvenating the old industrial base in Northeast China. In 2005, the Expo came into being, aiming at revitalizing the old industrial bases in Northeast China and promoting regional cooperation in Northeast Asia. In 2006, Vice Premier Wu Yi offered three suggestions on promoting economic cooperation in Northeast Asia by “ improving mechanism, expanding cooperation and enhancing the actual effects” at the 2nd Northeast Asia Expo, so as to further deepen the economic and trade cooperation in Northeast Asia and bring it into a new depth and breadth. In September 2007, approved by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, the 1st High-level Forum on Northeast Asia Economic and Trade Cooperation was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China, the Office of State Council for Northeast China Revitalization (now as the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China) and the People’s Government of Jilin Province in Changchun International Conference and Exhibition Center. At present, the High-level Forum on Northeast Asia Cooperation has become the main forum in Northeast Asia Expo.
The Expo was originally named the China Jilin Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo. In 2012, the State Council of the People’s Republic of China approved the name changing as China Northeast Asia Expo, making it an international comprehensive expo serving China’s diplomatic strategy towards neighboring countries. From 2005 to 2013, it was held annually. Since 2014, the central government decided that national large-scale exhibitions and activities with foreign-related mechanism including Northeast Asia Expo should be held every other year.

III. Main Achievements
Since 2005, the Expo has been held successfully in a row for eleven. After the 11th Expo, there has been a great number of participants. With a total number of over 100 countries and regions and more than 988 dignitaries at or above the vice-ministerial level (provincial level) in China attended the Expos (54 dignitaries at or above the vice-national level), our Party and state leaders presented at the Expos successively, including Wu Yi (twice), Zeng Peiyan, Wang Qishan (twice), Li Keqiang, Wang Yang (twice) and etc, giving speeches on behalf of the Chinese government in the High-level Forum on Northeast Asia Cooperation. More than 700,000 merchants and 7,000 exhibitors from over 130 countries and regions participated in the Expo, with a proportion of overseas exhibitors exceeded 50%.
The High-level Forum on Northeast Asia Cooperation, approved by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, has been successfully held for eight sessions and has become a high-end platform for regular exchanges and dialogues among governments in Northeast Asia.
IV. The 12th China-Northeast Asia Expo
The 12th China-Northeast Asia Expo will be held in Changchun from August 23 to August 27, 2019. The Expo, with “Enhancing mutual trust and cooperation to create beautiful prospects for Northeast Asia” as its theme and “Creating a base for high-level communication, a platform for high-quality economy and trade exchanges and a exhibition center for high-potential products” as its target, will comprehensively focus on the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation so as to promoting the high-quality development in digital economic era. It also plans to set up 6 pavilions including Theme Pavilion centered on the New Era of 5G and Pavilion of Northeast Asia Countries, Pavilion of Import Commodity, Pavilion of Northeast China Revitalization and Cooperation, Pavilion of Health-Care Industry and Pavilion of Jilin Province and hold the 10th High-level Forum on Northeast Asia Economic and Trade Cooperation, the Greater Tumen Initiative (GTI) Intergovernmental Consultative Committee Ministerial Meeting, the 1st Round-table Conference of Heads of Local Governments in Northeast Asia Cooperation, the 1st China-Japan-ROK Entrepreneur Summit, and the 4th World Jilin Entrepreneurs Convention..
The current situation in Northeast Asia is generally stable and sound, which provides more favorable conditions for strengthening regional cooperation. The Expo will fully implement the spirit in symposium on promoting the revitalization of Northeast China emphasized by General Secretary Xi Jinping and four proposals proposed in the 4th Eastern Economic Forum, encourage all parties to fully participate in the joint construction of “the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)” and promote the investment cooperation in Northeast Asia. It also plays an active role in creating an open and cooperative platform, building an important window towards Northeast Asia and creating a center to further promote the cooperation in this region so as to accelerate comprehensive revitalization of Jilin in the new era.
